Dr Sibylle Mellinghoff earned her medical degree from the University Hospital at Westfaelische Wilhelms University, Muenster (2016). She completed her structured medical training at Department I of Internal Medicine, University Hospital of Cologne, Cologne, Germany, becoming an internist and a specialist in hematology/oncology. Dr Mellinghoff subsequently joined Oliver Cornely’s clinical research group in November 2016 and is pursuing further specialized training in infectious diseases.
Using her foundation in cellular immunotherapy clinical research, Dr Mellinghoff has pursued such research interests as invasive fungal diseases, Staphylococcus aureus surgical site infections, and infections and immunologic events in patients treated with new antineoplastic drugs.
Martin Hönigl is Assistant Research Scientist in the AntiViral Research Center, Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases, at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). After studying at the University of Graz (Austria), Dr Hönigl obtained his venia docendi in internal medicine in 2012, and he joined the UCSD faculty in 2014.
Dr Hönigl’s research has focused on clinical mycology, including fungal diagnostics and pharmacology of antifungal drugs. The results of his work, published extensively in major journals and presented at major scientific meetings, have been concentrated in the research areas of HIV, antiretrovirals, and invasive fungal infections.
Dr Hönigl is the current president of the European Confederation of Medical Mycology (ECMM) and the vice-president of the Austrian Society for Medical Mycology (OEGMM). He is also the founder of the ECMM Academy and since 2015 has served an associate editor for the journal Mycoses. Dr. Hönigl has been awarded the Researcher of the Year award at the Medical University of Graz (2011), and the Research Promotion award of the German Speaking Mycological Society (2014).
